My New Favorite Shirt

We’ve all owned clothes that we like, but have you ever owned a piece that you just LOVE? One that fits you perfectly, flatters every curve, and hides every flaw? You know the one I’m talking about, right? RIGHT! Well, I’ve had a few of these pieces in my wardrobe over the years, but here recently, my post-baby bod has made my clothes look just a tad different on me.

While thumbing through the pages of www.etsy.com, I came across a photo of a top that I fell in love with. The online shop is known as “Sweet Home Boutique”. It’s run by a sweet lady named Rachel from South Carolina, who constructs some of the most beautiful clothing I’ve ever seen. I have a long torso, so the #1 thing I look for in a top is length. Sounds like an easy thing to find, right? Well, not so much, but Sweet Home Boutique has not only cute tops, but cute tops that come in tunic length! Here’s a picture of me wearing the top I bought from Rachel this past week:

Don’t you just love it??? I know I do!!! It fits perfectly, and for about $40 (I bought it on sale), I think it’s the best money I’ve spent in a while. She has a variety of FABULOUS fabrics, and even makes cute belts (sold separately) that can be worn to compliment some of her tops. I plan to order a dress very soon! Here are a few of my favorite items from Sweet Home Boutique:

ON SALE tunic retro red white blue belted tunic XS, S, M and L

ON SALE tunic paisley bright retro red belted asain inspired retro XS S M L

ON SALE tunic shirt blouse green flutter sleeves belted ruffle long retro with pockets XS, S, M and L

And last, BUT CERTAINLY NOT LEAST, my most favorite item that I plan to order next:
ON SALE women green dress ruffle belt long classy 1950 ladies XS, S, M and L

I'M IN LOVE!!! Now enough gushing...
Check out the shop on etsy.com, and order something cute for yourself. YOU WON’T BE DISAPPOINTED!

Passion for Fashion

I'm sitting at work, and I've got about a million ideas for clothing I want to make dancing around in my head. It's times like this that make me wonder why I ever chose to work in the medical field. Anyways... I've pretty much made up my mind that I am going to build my very own wardrobe this year. I have tons of fabric piled up, and quite a few patterns that are just waiting to be used. I also have quite a few pieces in line to be re-purposed {very excited about these}.  I bought a few basic tops from Victoria's Secret, and I'm hoping that those will suffice until I'm finished with this mission. Here's the next pattern I'll be working with, just as soon as I'm finished with the dress from my previous post:

I'm making it as a tunic instead of the dress in the photo. I plan to do the bodice in vintage floral cotton, and the cap sleeves and skirt portion in white/black polka dot cotton. I love combining different fabric patterns- it's like my own way of quilting or patchwork.

Fun with bunting!

Made this bunting for a friend's daughter's room. She originally asked for a quilt with her name on it, but quilts are one thing I do NOT do, so I think this was a good variation of what she asked for. I used old floral fabrics that I just had lying around, and it came together very nicely! Can't wait to show her.

Currently in the works...

Right now, I'm working on this dress pattern (McCall's 6319). I'm making it with a moss green jersey knit fabric (not looking forward to sewing with stretchy fabric, but I've got to learn somehow). I'm really excited about this piece! I've got everything cut out, I just need to find time between orders to make it for myself! Hoping to have it done by next weekend.

A project I'd love to try:

This looks awesome. I love the look of all the stuff from Fragments:Perfectly Flawed. It's a boutique in New Ulm, that I just happened to spot at a craft show a few weeks back.

To blog or not to blog...

So I've been dying to try this blogging thing. A few of my fellow crafting idols do it (and are super good at it), and it just inspired me to give it a shot. I love to make things, and here lately I've been dabbling in so many different projects, that I can't seem to find my niche. I love clothing design and construction, but my last sewing class was in 2006, and I still have a few skills that need fine tuning. I hope to use the blog to keep you posted on what projects I'm working on, crafty tutorials, and just life in general. I'm in my last year as a nursing student, so trust me, it's going to be interesting.
